Our standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation

Aroha is 18+ only

Aroha is built for adults. Our Terms of Service require every member to be 18 years or older (or the age of majority where they live, if that is higher). Anyone under that age is prohibited from creating an account or using the service.

At sign-up every member must give a date of birth, and an account cannot be created with a date of birth under 18. Profiles carry a photo verification option that compares a live selfie to the profile’s main photo.

What is prohibited

The following are banned on Aroha, in profiles, photos, date plans, chat messages, and anywhere else content can appear:

• Child sexual abuse material (CSAM), in any form, including computer-generated or edited imagery.
• Any sexualisation of a minor, including text, imagery, emoji, or implied depictions.
• Grooming, solicitation, sextortion, or any attempt to contact, recruit, or arrange to meet a minor for sexual purposes.
• Trafficking of a minor, or advertising, requesting, or trading CSAM or access to a minor.
• Use of Aroha by anyone under 18, including an adult creating or operating an account on a minor’s behalf.

Reporting to us

In the app: every profile and every chat has a Report option in its options sheet. Choosing Underage flags the account for child safety review; other categories cover harassment, impersonation, and inappropriate photos. Reporting is anonymous to the person being reported, and you can block them in the same step.

By email: anyone — whether or not they use Aroha — can report a child safety concern to arohadating@gmail.com with the subject “CHILD SAFETY REPORT”.

What we do about it

• We review reports. A child safety report is prioritised over all other report types. When a report is filed, Aroha preserves an evidence snapshot of the reported account and the conversation as it stood at that moment, so it cannot be deleted out from under a review.
• We remove and ban. Accounts found to have engaged in CSAE are terminated, and their content removed. This is a permanent ban, not a warning, and applies on the first instance.
• We report CSAM. Confirmed child sexual abuse material is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), and to other authorities where local law requires it. We preserve associated records as required.
• We comply with child safety law. Aroha complies with applicable child protection laws and regulations in the markets where it operates, and cooperates with lawful requests from law enforcement.
